New PPS plant at Texas to expand Chevron Phillips Chemical's capacity

22-Jul-05
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (equally by Chevron Corporation and ConocoPhillips), a leading supplier of aromatics, alpha olefins, styrenics, specialty chemicals, piping and proprietary plastics is targeting Borger, Texas to be the location for the new polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) plant. The new facility, to be built alongside its existing site, is scheduled to have a 22 million pound pa capacity with startup anticipated in mid-2007. The construction is still awaiting the approval of the company board. This new facility, beside the already existing PPS plant, is expected to expand the company's total PPS capacity at the site to nearly 44 million pounds per year. This move is planned as the demand for Chevron Phillips Chemical's Ryton® PPS is considered to be increasing. This initiative is to not only provide more of the product but also expand their services to existing and future customers. Ryton® PPS is Chevron Phillips Chemical's high performance engineering resin known for its dimensional stability and resistance to corrosive and high-temperature environments. Ryton® PPS is recognized as the world's premier product for demanding plastic applications, used in injection molding and extrusion applications for computer components, automobile parts, and various electrical appliances
