Light sweet crude for September settled at US$72.63 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange and October Brent crude on London's ICE Futures exchange settled at US$73.56 per barrel. Oil prices held steady after Iran's top nuclear negotiator expressed readiness for "serious negotiations" over its disputed program but has not expressed whether it would suspend uranium enrichment.
