South Korean Samsung Total plans to complete the new 185,000 tpa metathesis unit located at its Daesan naphtha cracker complex in August 2008. The Daesan cracker has ethylene production capacity of 800,000 tpa. Samsung Total's current ethylene supply is pegged at about 9,000 tons per month on term supply contracts with Japanese traders. This ethylene is estimated to get channelised towards the new metathesis unit. It is noted that when the metathesis unit comes onstream, Samsung Total's term ethylene exports is likely to reduce significantly .
