Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has resumed gas production at its Hazira plant near Surat. Though 6 million cubic metres of gas were produced in the first phase on Saturday evening, the plant will take some time to start functioning normally. With the initial production, gas supply was resumed to ONGC's consumers in Hazira and elsewhere in the country, including to Reliance and Essar.
ONGC Hazira plant was shut for 12 days due to unprecedented rains in the region that flooded the Tapi river, following heavy discharge of water from the Ukai dam on August 7. ONGC estimated its loss at over Rs. 20 crore a day during the 12 days of closure.
