PBT-based thermoplastic polyester resins used in Toronto Airport's people moving system

19-Jan-09
Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport have installed an innovative new automated people moving system, Turbo Track, with handrails made with DuPont™ Crastin® PBT - DuPont's thermoplastic polyester resins based on polybutylene terephthalate. According to the senior people at Greater Toronto Airport Authority, Turbo Track bridges the gap between conventional moving walks and automated people movers. It can be used to safely and smoothly transport 15,000 people per hour across distances of 100 to 1,500 meters, saving time and eliminating waiting periods. The handrail of the Turbo Track, an integral component of the system, is made from DuPont™ Crastin® PBT due to its durability and low-noise operation. The continuous handrail - which moves at speeds synchronized with the speed of the flooring - is made of a toughened and flame-resistant grade of Crastin® PBT.
