Petrobras has announced plans for a US$6.5 billion petrochemical complex, probably, "the biggest single project in the history of the company." A presentation was made to officials from Itaborai and Sao Gonzalo, the two cities in Rio de Janeiro where the complex will be located. Petrobras will operate the project with Brazilian partner Ultra.
Crude oil for the complex, with processing capacity of 150,000 bpd of crude, will come from the state's offshore Campos basin. Output from the plant will supply the domestic market for petrochemical resins, propane, benzene and other products that are currently imported.
