A naphtha cracker plant operated by Showa Denko will undergo planned maintenance turnaround from the first week of March, as per Fibre2fashion. The cracker has capacity to produce 695,000 tpa of ethylene. Two furnaces erected in 2010 and accounting for around 200,000 tons of ethylene capacity will remain shutdown during the period. Operating capacity will fall to 70%.
Showa Denko had, in January, lowered the cracker utilization rate to 85-88% due to weak margins and it is further expected to reduce the run rates in the month of February.
