Plant outage at Tri Polyta, Indonesian largest PP producer

10-Jan-05
Tri Polyta Indonesia Tbk is the largest Indonesian producer of polypropylene, with the largest domestic market share and exports to Asian markets. The plant is located in the petrochemical complex in Cilegon, West Java which consists of three trains and utilizes UNIPOL® gas-phase technology, developed by Union Carbide Corp. and Shell. The three trains have a combined capacity to produce approx. 360,000 to 380,000 tpa. An electricity outage on the first of the month has forced the company to idle all three of its PP lines. One of the plants was restarted the next day and the second line was to be restarted end of the week. The third line is expected to be restarted next week. Despite the PP shutdown, Tripolyta received propylene from its domestic supplier, Chandra Asri, so need did not arise for immediate imports.
