Polyolefin and PC prices on the rise, PS prices sliding

14-Feb-05
Polyolefin prices are on the rise as suppliers pushed prices up this month, on the back of tight supply. Plant outages compounded a tight monomer supply situation and sent spot ethylene prices soaring. Polyethylene producers implemented a price increase of upto 4%, while polypropylene was up 3% over the previous month. Bayer has proposed a E400/ton rise in the price of its Makrolon material for December due to ightness in the global polycarbonate market and rising feedstock costs. Polystyrene prices tumbled by more than 5% after a sudden fall in the price of styrene and benzene. PVC market were quiet and producers were content to hold onto price gains in December as prices remained largely unchanged. PET prices continued northward on the back of very tight supply in key feedstocks.
