Poor downstream demand leads to run cuts at LyondellBasell/Bayer's Dutch POSM unit

26-Aug-11
Operating rates at the 640,000 tpa propylene oxide styrene monomer (POSM) LyondellBasell/Bayer JV unit in Maasvlakte, the Netherlands, have been cut due to poor downstream demand. However, the current run rates at the unit have not been disclosed. This production cut follows news that Styrolution partially shut down its 500,000 tpa ethyl-benzene styrene monomer Antwerp plant. Production issues in August at the Styrolution unit have forced them to cut rates to around 50%.
