The British Plastics Federation (BPF), UK's leading trade association has voiced concerns that a Chinese ban on imports of plastics for reprocessing could dampen UK's efforts to comply with the landfill diversion targets. Chinese ban on imports of plastics for reprocessing, likely to be effective from March 1, 2009 may impact low-density products such as plastic bags and netting, although it could include all baled plastic waste. The UK plastics recycling industry would be needed to wake up quickly and adapt to likely Chinese ban on imported recycled plastics.
