In a bid to improve industry competitiveness, the Government of India has removed 14 products from the list of items that can be exclusively manufactured by the small scale industries, cutting the SSI list to just 21. The products removed form the Small Scale Industries (SSI) list include polyethylene films with thickness less than 0.10 mm, products of polyethylene films as coloured printed films & bags, polypropylene tubular films (except biaxially oriented) and injection moulding thermoplastic products like diethyl phthalate, diocytyl phthalate, chlorinated paraffin wax (up to 60% chlorine content). However, the list does not include PET co-extruded film cross linked polymer films and high density molecular films.
This de-reservation of products would enable technology upgradation and improve industry competitiveness. This will ensure adequate flow of credit and allow technology upgradation in order for the products to be world class and competitive in the global marketplace which will further allow industry achieve economies of scale and promote job creation.
