Project Assesses Impact of REACH Legislation on the European Polymer Industries

REACH for polymers aims to increase and consolidate the knowledge base of the European polymer industry by applying new techniques and methods that offer environmental as well as economic advantages to the industry when complying with the REACH regulation. The main result of the project is a REACH toolkit for the European polymer industry. The toolkit will be a new, interactive, innovative software application capable of guiding users through the entire REACH process, from understanding their individual requirements through to tests to perform, registration and best practice. The intention is that the REACH for Polymers toolkit will become a leading, if not the definitive, resource for companies throughout the industry, wherever they are in the supply chain, providing them with an efficient, innovative and user-friendly method for complying with REACH. A benchmarking report detailing the impact of the REACH legislation on the European polymer industries has now been published. The aim of this work package was to develop a survey that would allow the REACH for Polymers project to gauge the level of awareness, attitudes and practices, understanding of the European polymer industries towards the REACH legislation and evaluate its impact.
