Renewably sourced fiber combines environmental, performance benefits for commercial carpets

DuPont announced that its renewably sourced Sorona fiber is now available for the commercial carpet industry. According to the company, carpet manufactured with DuPont Sorona fiber offers customers uncompromised performance plus the added benefit of an environmentally sustainable offering. Sorona polymer for commercial carpet is 37% renewably sourced by weight. Carpet made with Sorona® can contribute to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits in three categories: MR Credit 6 "Rapidly Renewable Materials," IEQ Credit 4.3 "Low-Emitting Materials," and MR Credit 5 "Regional Materials. The company maintains, as compared to nylon 6,6, producing same amount of Sorona fibers cuts GHG impact on global warming by trimming CO2 emissions by 57% and reducing energy consumption by 40%. Additionally, Sorona fibers provide benefits including natural, permanent stain resistance, bleach resistance, durability and fade resistance.
