At its 32nd AGM, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced that the company has spent the few years in integrating petrochemical building blocks, intermediates and final products; and also focusing on integrating acquisitions such as IPCL, Nocil and SM Dyechem.
In April 2006, Reliance expanded the capacity of its Jamnagar polypropylene plant by 280,000 tpa. Now, RIL looks forward to at become the fourth largest producer of polypropylene in the world by 2008, by adding 900,000 tpa of polypropylene capacity to the new export-oriented refinery of Reliance Petroleum. RIL has also recently commissioned the world's largest polyester expansion project. 500,000 tons of polyester capacity was brought on stream in a record 18 months. With this expansion, polyester capacity under Reliance's control rises to 2 million tpa. RIL now controls 4% of global capacity and 6% of global production share. A 730,000 tpa purified terepthalic acid (PTA) plant at Hazira is to commence commercial production.
