S-Oil Corp. has embarked on a 1.4 trillion won (US$1.1 bln) expansion project at the Onsan complex to boost its petrochemicals production capacity. This will include plans to construct a 900,000 tpa paraxylene plant, and a 280,000 tpa benzene plant, scheduled for completion by June 2011. Growing demand for paraxylene from China is expected to fuel the plant.
