Japanese petrochemicals maker Sanyo Petrochemical Co., a unit of Asahi Kasei Corp. continues with the shutdown at its 450,000 tpa naphtha cracker. The cracker, located in Mizushima, western Japan, remains shut and the company has not decided on a restart date for the unit. The cracker was expected to resume operations after a month-long planned maintenance shutdown about a week ago. However, the restart has been delayed because of an ethylene leak and a fire near the unit. The cause of the fire and leak at the plant is still under investigation.
