Petrochemicals company Sasol has signed an agreement with Finnish company Wärtsilä, to operate and maintain a power plant in Sasolburg, as per Timeslive.co.za. Its subsidiary, Sasol New Energy, is in the process of building a gas-fired power station in Sasolburg to supplement its electricity supply. The plant is expected to come on stream next year. More than 140MW of electricity will be generated from natural gas, a cleaner and more efficient fossil fuel than coal. Sasol will be able to reduce its carbon emissions from Sasolburg by about a mln tons a year.The Finnish group, Wärtsilä, will operate and maintain the facility on behalf of Sasol New Energy for three years.
