A consortium of 6 Japanese companies, including Nippon Steel Corp. and JFE Steel Corp. ahs been awarded a contract to supply steel pipes to Saudi Aramco at refinery and petrochemicals projects. Saudi Aramco is planning a US$8.5 billion petrochemicals plant with Japan's Sumitomo Chemical Co. at Rabigh on the Red Sea Coast.
The order is for supply of 200,000 metric tons of pipes over 5 years from the end of 2005, and is estimated to be worth about US$225 mln.
