Saudi Arabia has warned India of possible action against India for levying upto 50% customs tariffs on its polypropylene exports. The resultant action could be similar to what the Kingdom plans against China after it introduced tariffs on Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical exports with the aim of protecting its own products.
Saudi Arabia has also urged the GCC Secretariat to include clear and frank articles in any free trade agreement [FTA] with China that it should not subject the Gulf petrochemical products to such measures. GCC must also deal with such irrational Chinese moves and seek reassurances from Beijing in any FTA that it will not take any protection measures against products from the Middle East.
