Sumitomo Demag is closing its US injection press assembly factory in Georgia, and makes a major investment at its two plants in Germany as per a report in PRW. The factory was set up in 1998 by Sumitomo Heavy Industries to get a foothold in US press assembly. Sumitomo bought Demag Plastics Group in 2008. €50 mln in investment in Wiehe and Schwaig, Germany, have been earmarked by the company. Sumitomo Demag is turning the small-press plant in Wiehe into a major manufacturing base for all-electric injection moulding machines. Sumitomo Demag now will supply North American customers with all-electric presses built in Germany and Japan.
