Early next month, Saudi Ethylene and Polyethylene Company (SEPC) plans to start up a new of 1 mln tpa cracking unit and 400,000 tpa HDPE plant in Al-Jubail this year and begin commercial production thereafter. The LDPE plant will be started in early December. Countries of the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, excluding Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, will be the target markets for the output.
After satisfying demand for captive HDPE and LDPE consumption, about 200,000 tpa of ethylene will find its way into export markets. About 90% of the 284,800 tpa propylene produced at the cracker will serve as feedstock for SPC's new 250,000 tpa PP plant at Al-Jubail - as per a long-term sales agreement with Saudi Polyolefins Company (SPC).
