Sibur, Russia's leading petrochemicals company has kicked off the construction for its polypropylene (PP) plant in Tobolsk. The new PP plant slated to start production by 2011 will have an output capacity of 500,000 tpa making it the largest PP facility in the world. As jointly decided by Sibur and Flour (Project Management Company) in August 2007, the PP plant will use the proprietary technologies of UOP (US) and INEOS (US) for the production of PP.
Sibur had created a fully owned subsidiary, Tobolsk-Polimer to handle the PP project in April 2006 and signed an investment agreement on state support with government of Tyumen Region in August 2007. The senior officials of Sibur and the government officials of Tyumen region were present at the opening ceremony of the construction site held on July 30, 2008.
