As per original plans, Sinopec Corp plans to start up its 1 mln tpa ethylene complex in Zhejiang province in Q1-2010 at the earliest. Construction of the complex, built at an outlay of 25 billion yuan (US$3.66 bln), is expected to be completed by end of 2009. This start up schedule is almost as per its original schedule. The start up of this plant will largely reduce China’s reliance on imports and will be the country’s fourth major ethylene project to come on line in 2009-2010. Sinopec has plans to double Zhenhai’s capacity to 2 million tpa, making it one of the world's biggest. It will be linked with China’s largest refinery located in Zhenhai with capacity of 440,000 bpd.
