Saudi International Petrochemical Company (Sipchem) will start up its new 330,000 tpa vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) plant in Jubail Industrial City in early December. Earlier this week, Sipchem has started production at a new upstream, 450,000 tpa acetic acid facility at the same site. This start up is considered to be the second phase towards the full operation of the integrated Acetyls Complex in Saudi Arabia. The first phase was the start up in May of the 335,000 tpa carbon monoxide plant.
50% output from the acetic acid plant would be utilised in the production of VAM, and the balance will be sold in the domestic and overseas markets. International chemical marketer Helm will be selling the product.
