Sipchem’s US$1.07 bln project near completion

Saudi International Petrochemical Co (Sipchem)’s plans for a 4 billion riyals (US$1.07 bln) second phase, is scheduled for completion in September. The project comprises an acetyls complex that will produce 450,000 tpa acetic acid, 330,000 tpa of vinyl acetate monomer and 345,000 tpa of carbon monoxide. Project execution was underway in September 2006, and Initial targets had estimated start up in H1-2009. Production at the carbon monoxide plant which will provide feedstock for the production of acetic acid and other products has commenced test runs. Germany’s Lurgi AG and Frances’ Air Liquide were selected for the construction of carbon monoxide plant. Fluor Canada was selected for the construction of the acetic acid plant and the vinyl acetate plant.
