Solvay to invest in PEEK capacity expansion in India

17-Oct-06
Solvay Advanced Polymers plans a major investment in capacity for a 500 tpa high performance PEEK polymer plant at the Panoli site of India's Gharda Polymers. Solvay had acquired Gharda's PEEK business earlier this year. The 500 tpa plant is scheduled to come on-stream in Q1-2008 using technology from Solvay Advanced Polymers but similar chemistry to that employed by Victrex. The product will be branded KetaSpire, one of a new family of ultra high performance materials being launched by Solvay Advanced Polymers under the SolvaSpire name. The portfolio also includes AvaSpire, a modified PEEK range, PrimoSpire, which the company claims is the first new polymer for the past 15 years, EpiSpire, based on its earlier Supradel product, with input from Gharda, and Torlon PAI.
