Ticona Engineering Polymers' US-based plant in Shelby, North Carolina has received Green Partner certification from Sony Corporation, the global consumer electronics company. Sony gives this certification to its suppliers based on their cooperation in the production of eco-friendly products and ability to meet established regulations for environment-related substances found in components of products that bear the Sony name. Ticona manufactures Vectra® liquid crystal polymer (LCP), Celanex® thermoplastic polyester (PBT), and Riteflex® thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPC-ET) at its Shelby-based manufacturing unit.
Accoridng to senior executive form Ticona, Sony's Green Partner certification emphasizes the company's endeavour to offer customers with broad product line of engineering polymers that can meet their requirements and comply with industry standards such the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) and ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
