The Gharb Ethylene Project, constructed in the western province of Kurdestan is to be partly funded by euro 218 million agreement signed between the National Petrochemical Industries Company and Pidak, and Technimont, Italy's international engineering contractor in processing and industrial plants. The LDPE production capacity from this plant is projected at about 300,000 tpa, which is likely to enable the factory to vie with production units in Imam Khomeini Port and Asalouyeh. The project is to be completed within 48 months.
Foreign technology is to be used in the construction of this petrochemical unit whose mechanical equipment is likely to be produced by Iranian engineers.
This facility will be 'a feather in the cap' for Iran that will improve its ranking on the world petrochemical market by March 2006. The country besides this is also planning to commission about 15 more refineries in the hydrocarbon-rich Asalouyeh region in the coming months.
