Saudi joint venture company Saudi Aramco Total Refining & Petrochemical Company (Satorp) has awarded two major turnkey projects to French engineering company Technip. The full conversion refinery will have a processing capacity of 400 000 bbl/d. The refinery also produce 700,000 tpa of paraxylene, 140,000 tpa of benzene and 200,000 tpa of polymer-grade propylene. Technip’s scope for this project covers the engineering, procurement and con- struction of the hydrocracking and catalytic cracking conversion process units, as well as some of the utility units, the interconnecting network and the process control system of the entire refinery.
With the US$9.6 bln grassroots refinery to be built at the Jubail industrial area, state-owned oil producer Satorp and global oil and gas producer Total will supply the growing demand for transportation fuels and petrochemicals, particularly in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The refinery will process Arabian heavy crude to high-quality refined products that will meet the most stringent global product specifications and is expected to commence operations at the end of 2012.
