Texas Petrochemicals plans to reduce its headcount by 13% across the board at all of its plants including Port Neches, Houston, Baytown and a product terminal in Lake Charles. At Port Neches, the company plans to reduce the hourly workforce by about 30%, comprising workers representing several unions, including the USW. Approximately 300 people work at the plant, bought by Texas Petrochemicals from Huntsman. A global economic slowdown that has led to a slowdown in the US automotive sector has hit demand for butadiene produced at Port Neches.
