Thermoplastics demand in Brazil to be boosted by World Cup, supply impacted by maintenance

Demand for thermoplastic resins in Brazil will remain strong in H1-2014, ahead of the World Cup in June-July, as per a report by Brazilian petrochemical consultancy MaxiQuim. Planned and unplanned maintenance in the region is adding to supply woes. Petrobras' refinery in Rio de Janeiro was shut down for unscheduled maintenance in the first days of 2014, impacting production at Braskem's polypropylene plant at Duque de Caxias. Additionally, Braskem's site at Triunfo in southern Brazil will undergo maintenance in March.
