In a bid to meet growing demand from processors for food packaging applications, Malaysia's Titan Chemicals estimates to double market share within Indonesia's polyethylene market. Packaged food in Indonesia recorded a sales increase of 15% in 2005, and is expected to continue driving demand for packaging solutions.
Indonesia's demand for polyethylene is not being met by current production. Titan expects to supply 300,000 tons of polyethylene this year, compared to 100,000 tons in 2006. By maintaining these levels of growth into 2008, Titan could account for 50% of Indonesian demand, from the current market share of under 25% of the total supply in the country.
