Turkmenistan highlights development of refining and petrochem industry as key to economic development

Sophisticated refining and petrochemicals industry have been highlighted by Turkmenistan for significant economic development. The country plans to boost refining to 30 mln tpa by 2030 nad aims to export 80 mln tpa of crude oil. The Caspian country seeks western expertise in marketing of oil and petrochemicals. The country's largest and most modern refinery, the Turkmenbashi complex has a capacity of around 7.5 mln tpa, and is currently operating at 85% capacity. The refinery produces fuels as per European standards, with sulphur content of 10 parts per million The country has a second, smaller refinery with a capacity of 6 mln tpa, which is running at low capacity and will be completely rebuilt.
