Unpaid leaves to save cost, preserve employees at DuPont

In a bid to save capital while preserving employees, US-headquartered DuPont has reportedly requested its salaried workforce worldwide to take unpaid leaves owing to tough market conditions, The News Journal reported. The company which witnessed a Q4 loss in 2008 amid declining demand, also called for closure of 100 production lines and lay-offs of 2,500 full-time positions and thousand s of contract workers to deal with economic downturn. As per local media reports, 70 plus senior executives with DuPont will voluntarily take an unpaid 3-week holiday while some other salaried employees will take a 2-week off. The company employs about 57,000 people worldwide with 8,000 plus employees at its Delaware headquarters alone.
