Retort pouches are heat-resistant bags that are laminated inside with multiple layers of flexible plastic and metal foils, which can withstand high temperature and pressure. The multiple layers consist of aluminum foil, nylon, and PET that are made up of materials such as polypropylene, aluminum, and silica oxide, which act as oxygen and water vapor barrier. Retort pouches are used to package heat-treated food. Nowadays, they are being used as an alternative for cans in the food packaging industry because they provide longer shelf life to the product packaged. These pouches undergo a detailed conversion process, including printing, lamination, coating, and extrusion to develop different types of packaging products with various features such as spouts and fitments, zippers, pour spouts, slider closures, and release valves. Packaging protects a product from spoilage and also improves the overall aesthetic appeal of the product. Technavio's analysts forecast the global retort pouches market in terms of revenue and volume to grow at a CAGR of 7.84% and 10.57%, respectively, during 2014-2019.
