A week long turnaround has been planned by Dow Polyurethanes at the company's polymeric MDI (PMDI) production facility in Freeport, Texas. Though turnarounds can put added pressure on an already tight global MDI supply, Dow anticipates no disruptions to customers receiving MDI shipments from Freeport. The system maintenance will help to ensure that Dow's customers globally supplied from this site will continue to receive high quality PMDI in a consistent and reliable manner.
Global demand for MDI is increasing at 6-7% pa, driven by demand for rigid foams used in construction materials, appliances and adhesives and sealants. Dow Polyurethanes is a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, and has planned a capacity expansion at the Freeport MDI facility projected to be completed over a period of 36 months.
