Wuhan City in Central China's Hubei Province plans to make the Hongshan district a petrochemical production base - Central China's largest. In the next five years, an estimated 30 billion yuan (US$3.7 billion) will be invested in a production base to center round an 800,000 tpa ethylene project.
Preliminary work has commenced on the new petrochemical town, which upon completion will encompass production of chloroethylene, polyethylene and polypropylene, with an annual output of 1.4 million tons.
