A recent report has revealed that heavier maintenance shutdowns have kept ethylene production in Japan down to by 5.9% in the month of June as compared to the production in June 2007. 4 ethylene plants were shutdown in June for maintenance turnaround, keeping ethylene output down at 572500 tons, as compared with 2 shutdowns in June 2007, when output was at 608300 tons.
In the previous month of May, three plants were shut for maintenance turnaround, output was at 594,500 tons. In May, export volumes dropped 24.6% to 159800 tons from a year ago, while May import volume spiked 44.4% to 48400 tons.
