The Mississippi River has reopened as floodwaters recede, ushering relief for shippers in the Midwest. Lock 25 near Winfield, Missouri, north of St. Louis was the final lock to be opened. The floods had affected movement of material in the area. Barges full of grain, coal and petrochemicals for domestic and export markets were stranded due to the floods and were not moving on the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois rivers. The situation has now improved and on a path to recovery.
