An unexpected decline in crude oil stockpiles by 1 million barrels was reported by Energy Information Administration along with a larger-than-expected build in gasoline stockpiles of 2.9 million barrels last week. Volatility in crude oil prices followed this information with Light crude in New York rising to US71.23 after falling to US$70.34.
London's Brent North Sea crude for November delivery rose to US$68.56.
This week, a weakening US dollar triggered capital inflows back into the crude.
