Biomax® Strong- a petrochemical additive that increases the utility of bio-based, biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) packaging has been introduced DuPont™. Biomax® Strong provides improved toughness, enables improved transparency of the final product and meets requirements for compostibility.
PLA is considered a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics, particularly for packaging industry, since it is biodegradable when composted. However, performance deficiencies including brittleness and decreased durability have stalled the successful adoption of biodegradable plastics.
