BASF has gone ahead with its planned turnaround at its 280,000 tpa ethylene oxide (EO) unit at Ludwigshafen, Germany. The shutdown is part of a broader turnaround at the Ludwigshafen-2 cracker and is expected to last 3-4 weeks. The company's other EO unit at Antwerp is currently running at reduced rates following a power outage on April 9. The date of restoration of production to normal rate is still uncertain.
Will these production cuts lead to shortages in to an already tight market?
