BASF to upgrade automation system at Ludwigshafen

BASF's acetylene plant at its' complex in Ludwigshafen, Germany, is to undergo an upgrade of the Foxboro automation system by Invensys Process Systems. The acetylene plant is an integral part this highly integrated BASF Verbund site which overall produces more than 12 million tpa of polymers, chemicals, fertilizers and fibers. Implementation of the upgrade without shutting down acetylene plant poses a big challenge, as a shut down will impact production of all the other materials.
