Bayer MaterialScience has projected global polycarbonate growth at 8-10% pa for the next few years. With this projected growth Bayer has plans for further capacity increases. In response to rising demand for polycarbonate in China, Bayer MaterialScience plans to speed up its polycarbonate project under installation in China
Following completion of the 40,000 tpa compounding plant this summer, Bayer expects the first 100,000 tpa stage of its polymerisation build-up at the Caojing site, near Shanghai, to come onstream in early 2006. Total Makrolon capacity in China of 200,000 tpa, originally targeted for completion in 2009, is estimated to be advanced by almost two years.
