Bayer MaterialScience AG, with an annual global capacity of over one million tons of polyurethane raw material diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), is to increase capacity by introducing several debottle necking measures. Capacity at German site Krefeld-Uerdingen to increase by 36,000 tpa is to be based on process improvements by ensuring an efficient utilization of available capacities, without resulting in any major investment.
Bayer is also building the worlds' largest MDI production facility at its integrated site in Shanghai, with an annual capacity of 350,000. This plant, scheduled to go on stream in 2008, will secure a large portion of the projected growth in the Asia-Pacific region with locally produced MDI. This will continue to maintain Bayers' position as one of the world's leading producers of polyurethane raw materials.
