Blast at Sunoco refinery rocks ethylene unit

19-May-09
A blast in the ethylene unit of Sunoco Inc's oil refinery in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, has led to a fire and forced the unit shut and other operations to slowdown. Fuel production has been affected and gasoline prices are beginning to move up. No injury has been reported in the incident and the fire is under control and is contained, but the incident would hit output at the refinery's gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracker. Sunoco will try to compensate for lost output by boosting activity at refineries in Philadelphia and Eagle Point, New Jersey.
