Borouge 2 project to increase polyolefin capacity threefold

06-Jun-07
Borouge has signed contracts worth US$3.1 bln for its huge expansion project in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. Construction work under all three contracts is set for completion in 2010. The US$1.855 bln contract with Tecnimont of Italy is for the construction of three new polyolefins units based on Borealis’ Borstar technology, along with associated material handling facilities, laboratory facilities and marine works. This is the largest supplier contract Borouge has signed since its inception as a company in 1998 and is awarded on a lump sum turnkey basis. A contract with Tecnicas Reunidas of Spain, worth an estimated value of $1.234 bln, is for the construction of the offsite and utility facilities for the expanded plant, and is awarded on a convertible lump sum turnkey basis. In January this year, Borouge signed a $1.3 bln contract with Linde Engineering/CCC for the construction of a new ethylene cracker in the Borouge 2 project, which will take capacity from 600,000tpa to 2m tpa of polyolefins.
