Petroleum giant Shell is to proceed with the construction of a new butadiene extraction unit in Singapore as part of its Eastern Petrochemicals Complex targeted for start-up in 2010. The butadiene unit will be built on Pulau Bukom and have an initial capacity of 155,000 tpa and it also includes an ethylene cracker. The new plant will help the company to meet the demand of the region's fast-growing petrochemical industry.
The Shell Group is considered the largest marketer of butadiene globally.
