Thailand's top maker of aromatic petrochemicals - Thai Aromatics, anticipates a Q1 net profit of not less than 2.16 billion baht (US$62 million). Earnings in the January-March period would be higher than in Q1-06, when the company posted a small profit of 349 million baht due to a plant shutdown. Due to higher product prices and rising capacity earnings are projected to increase at least 10%. The earnings are estimated to rise until Q3-07 due to robust global demand and tight supply.
The company's annual capacity of paraxylene would rise to 530,000 tons this year from 495,000 tons last year due to the construction of the company's second plant in Q3-08. The company's annual nameplate capacity will rise to more than 4 million tons from 3.28 million tons.
